The Best Place for Fishing

Mount Pleasant Lodge offers unparalleled DIY and guided Bonefishing along the ocean flats of central Andros. The lodge enjoys a privileged on-the-water location overlooking the tongue of the ocean, at the base of a pine-forested peninsula separating a string of white sand flats from a large and productive tidal creek, a short walk from the legendary While Bight. DIY anglers can walk out of their cottage door and fish the “home flats” or alternatively walk or kayak to the White Bight, the surrounding flats, and the tidal creek. The lodge is also a short distance from the eastern entrance to the North Bight thus minimizing travel for guided anglers wishing to fish the North Bight and the West Side.

The Lodge

Our lodge is justly known for its DIY flats fishing and anglers have a variety of options depending on their preferences and tides. The main target on the flats along the east coast of Andros are bonefish, which generally run 3 to 5 pounds, with shots at fish over 5 pounds a relatively common occurrence. Bonefish move in an out of the ocean flats and the creek with the tide as singles, small groups and large schools and the chance to find and intercept these extraordinary fishes bring back our guests year after year.

Explore The Best Sites

Most DIY anglers concentrate on the “home” flats and the White Bight, easily accessed on foot from the lodge, while some choose to venture farther, using the lodge’s kayaks, to explore the tidal creek and the many small flats along the coast. Less frequently, some of our guests choose to explore the ocean flats between Cargill Creek and Fresh Creek using a rental car. All these areas offer outstanding “classic” wade fishing for bonefish.

Explore Best Sites

As you fish, you can explore some of the amazing sites that are unique to the property like Mauther’s Creek, which is located at the northwest side of the property. It can be described as a beach inside a beach. It is seen best when the tide is low exposing an oasis of water in mangroves that leads into the ocean. This is another fishing and snorkeling site for the adventurous visitor to explore. Also, there are three magnificent blue holes on the property available for deep diving and fishing. A blue hole is mystical by nature dwelling in mid-land. It is a hole of deep blue water ocean ocean water. The deepest blue hole among the three is 325 ft deep with an under-ground cave that is said to lead to the ocean floor. Just incredible!

Using a Guide

Central Andros is fortunate to be home to a large group of outstanding independent guides. They are our neighbors, and in fact we have grown up with many of them. Consequently, we have years of experience working together to ensure our guests’ experiences and we will gladly arrange for guided fishing for our guests. Fishing with a guide allows not only the benefits of his or her local knowledge and experience, but also the additional opportunity to see and explore the wilds of Andros including the flats of the north Bight and the West Side National Park. Many of our guests, even seasoned Mount Pleasant veterans, choose to combine a few days of DIY fishing and a few days of guided fishing. Groups of anglers often take full advantage of both options with some anglers going out with guides while a couple stay behind for some DIY bonefishing on the lodge waters.
