Pleasant.
The Bonefish
The bonefish is a silver scaled fish with a slightly dark to olive green streak along its back. They can weight up to 19 pounds with a length of up to 9cm long. They are innate to the waters of the Bahamas and frequent the flats where they feed with the incoming tide. They are very alert, fast and hard to catch. Therefore, a picture with the bonefish is honored among the anglers; it shows your mastery and fisherman skills.
Bonefishing at Mt. Pleasant
Where does the shore lie? This is the question you’ll ask yourself as you stand on the white-sand flats with fishing equipment in one hand and your complimentary snacks in the other. It’s time to walk on the flats into the low tide to meet the bonefish. As you walk out you’ll pass lush green mangroves with many small fish abiding in them. You may pass a bright orange starfish or black sea urchins in the tide. As you get in the boat, stretch your limbs and take a deep breath because your target could be right beneath you.
Unless you’ve been bonefishing before or you have outstanding eyesight, it will be hard for you to notice the silver bonefish in the sparkling waters. It will be quiet, you will hear waves passing sparingly and the flow of the waters will be faint. The birds will try to break your concentration, but you won’t let them because you and your guide will be listening and looking for the invisible fish. “It’s right deh” your guide will say. You may not see it right away but with a mesmerizing stare the image forms. Now the match begins, one good cast with a minute to pull and the line will be flying away from you. But, no matter how much of that line you lose, you’ll pull it back in because you came to win, and your picture is worth the fight. Whether it’s on your first try or your fifth, your guide will ensure that you catch the muscular bonefish for the record. It’s a fun challenge and good mental training. Every good catch in life requires skill and commitment. All equipment, snacks and drinks are included.
